On Earth Day, April 22, 2013, we humbly screened Chasing Ice at The White House. This was not only an incredible honor for the Chasing Ice team but also a rare opportunity to share the realities of climate change with some of America’s key policymakers.
Chasing Ice will be airing across the United States on The National Geographic Channel starting April 19th, 8pm EST, and worldwide in 171 countries on April 20th. The film is part of A Night of Exploration – one night each week throughout 2013 dedicated to the hot shots, the mavericks, and the best in their field who have devoted their lives to exploring the world around us and the ground-breaking discoveries that are making a difference. Check your local listings for times and please help spread the word to your friends.
Chasing Ice will also begin playing in Australia on April 17th at Cinema Nova in Melbourne. Showtimes and tickets are available here.

The Security Brief from the State Department was thoroughly frightening: Narco and FARC groups are responsible for many of the local bombings. Be aware of criminals who show false police identification. The drug scopolamine—which works as a truth serum and blocks your memory—is administered in liquid, spray, and powder forms and is used to rob unsuspecting victims. It didn’t help that we were picked up from the airport in a bulletproof van, displaying damage from a shotgun blast on the front windshield.
We hope that 2013 is off to a great start for all of you! 2012 was an incredible year for Chasing Ice, with the film debuting at Sundance in January and then going on to play at over 100 theaters and festivals across the world!

The Chasing Ice team is very proud to announce that we have just been awarded Best Documentary at the 22nd Annual Awards of the Environmental Media Association. This honor recognizes the work that Chasing Ice is doing to provide visual evidence of climate change and highlight climate change as one of the most important issues of our time.
A number of others were honored at the ceremony, including Elon Musk, who received the EMA Corporate Responsibility Award for his work with Tesla, and Jessica Alba, who received the EMA Green Parent Award for The Honest Company. More information about the awards can be found here. The Chasing Ice team would like to congratulate all of the other nominees and winners for their dedication to the environment and the work they are doing to create a more sustainable future. “We are taken on an exciting and perilous journey as he and his team scale ice-faces and cliffs in Iceland, Greenland, and Alaska in order to find the perfect spot for the delicate, laboriously installed camera equipment.”
“The camerawork in this movie is like nothing I have ever seen before. It captures the scale and beauty of the Arctic in a very intimate way. We are privy to a viewing of glaciers in remote areas that will never look the same again, and the disintegration of ice that has been in place for millennia. The raw photographic evidence that Balog presents makes climate change as real as it can get before it comes tapping at our own front door.”
